Frequently Asked Questions

Medtravel Solutions

MedTravel Solutions helps Canadian patients access high quality orthopaedic treatment at Gijos Klinikos with shorter wait times and more affordable pricing compared to North America. We guide patients through every step of the journey, from the initial consultation and treatment planning to travel coordination, accommodations, rehabilitation, and follow up care.

Unlike many medical travel companies that work with numerous clinics, MedTravel Solutions exclusively partners with one trusted clinic. This focused approach has allowed our team to gain extensive experience, build strong relationships with the medical staff, and provide a higher level of personalized service and support to our patients. With clear communication, transparent pricing, and dedicated guidance throughout the process, patients can feel confident knowing their care is coordinated by a team that truly understands every step of the journey.

MedTravel Solutions offers fully coordinated medical travel services designed to make the entire experience smooth and stress free. We provide all necessary information, assist with risk assessment, and coordinate communication between local healthcare providers in Canada and the surgical team at Gijos Klinikos.

Our team organizes flights, accommodations, and transportation, while also supporting companions traveling with patients by assisting with travel arrangements and providing guidance about transportation and daily logistics in Lithuania. Post treatment care and rehabilitation planning are coordinated locally in Canada to help ensure continuity of care after patients return home.

Through our trusted partner clinic, Gijos Klinikos, patients can access a wide range of procedures across several specialties, including orthopaedics, plastic and cosmetic surgery, bariatric surgery, and urology. Common procedures include hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, breast augmentation, breast lift and reduction, liposuction, tummy tuck and mommy makeover procedures, eyelid and facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, ear correction, arm and thigh lifts, and penile implant surgery.

MedTravel Solutions is based in Calgary. The team combines local Canadian presence with extensive European experience, allowing them to effectively coordinate care and support patients throughout their medical travel journey.

MedTravel Solutions carefully selected Gijos Klinikos based on strict criteria, including surgeon expertise, modern medical equipment, patient outcomes, and overall quality of care. By exclusively partnering with one clinic, we are able to provide a more consistent, personalized, and well coordinated patient experience.

The facility was personally inspected by a local orthopaedic surgeon to evaluate whether it meets or exceeds Canadian standards. This assessment included reviewing clinic blueprints, ventilation systems, surgical theatres, sterilization processes, and post operative recovery rooms. During rehabilitation, patients remain at the clinic, allowing for continuous medical supervision and a more supported recovery experience.

Trust is built through transparency, consistent communication, and genuine patient support. MedTravel Solutions provides clear pricing, honest guidance, and personalized assistance throughout the entire journey. We are involved in every step of the process, from the initial consultation and travel planning to surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery after patients return home to Canada.

Our focus is not simply arranging procedures, but ensuring patients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their recovery journey. The relationships we build with our patients and our 5 star Google reviews reflect the level of care, attention, and support we strive to provide every day.

Medical Tourism

Medical tourism allows patients to travel abroad for healthcare, often to avoid long wait times and high treatment costs at home. A typical medical journey includes surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery in a professional medical setting, with the opportunity to experience a new country during the process if approved by the medical team.

Yes. Many medical tourists take the opportunity to explore Lithuania, a beautiful country with rich history and culture. Some travelers also combine their trip with visits to other European destinations. We generally recommend sightseeing before surgery, while companions can continue exploring during the patient’s rehabilitation stay.

At the same time, it is important to remember that the primary purpose of the trip is medical treatment and recovery. Patient safety, comfort, and successful surgical outcomes always remain our main focus throughout the entire journey.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved, whether treatment is received at home or abroad. Our partner clinic in Lithuania follows high healthcare standards and has extensive experience treating international patients, helping to minimize potential risks.

Before traveling, we conduct a thorough health and risk assessment in Canada to ensure patients are fit for surgery, travel, and rehabilitation. Following our detailed protocols, including careful patient screening and preparation before surgery, has helped us maintain a complication rate below 2%. While no medical provider can fully eliminate risk, we are proud of the safety standards, planning, and patient support that contribute to these outcomes.

We also provide medications, compression stockings, and airport assistance to help patients travel safely and comfortably throughout the entire journey.

Yes. Traveling abroad for medical treatment can be safe when it is carefully planned and coordinated. Patients consistently highlight feeling safe, supported, and well cared for throughout their journey with MedTravel Solutions. We work exclusively with Gijos Klinikos, an experienced and internationally recognized clinic, while providing personalized support before, during, and after treatment.

Patient safety is always our top priority. Before surgery, every patient undergoes a detailed health and risk assessment in Canada to ensure they are medically fit for travel and treatment. Throughout the journey, we assist with travel planning, medications, compression stockings, airport support, rehabilitation coordination, and recovery planning to help patients feel confident and secure every step of the way.

Healthcare Quality

Lithuanian doctors are recognized for their extensive medical education, international training, and experience working with modern treatment methods and technologies. Many physicians regularly participate in conferences, training programs, and collaborations across both Europe and North America, contributing to a high standard of patient care.

MedTravel Solutions exclusively partners with Gijos Klinikos, a carefully selected private healthcare institution chosen through a detailed evaluation process. The clinic uses advanced medical equipment, modern surgical techniques, and internationally recognized treatment protocols to provide high quality care for both local and international patients.

The medical team includes internationally trained specialists with extensive experience in their fields, while the clinic maintains strict European healthcare and safety standards. The reputation of Lithuanian healthcare professionals throughout Europe and North America reflects the quality and professionalism patients can expect throughout their treatment and recovery journey.

Whether you will be insured against injury (occurring during or due to the surgery/treatment) or malpractice depends on what treatment/procedure you are willing to undergo. Therefore, please inquire us about this possibility for your chosen treatment/procedure.

For instance, for plastic surgeries at our partner clinic, you are insured by reliable insurance covering

Usually, individuals choose to receive treatment abroad due to one, few or all of these factors:

  • High quality;

  • Low cost;

  • Short or no waiting times;

  • All inclusive care;

  • More privacy;

In some cases, the surgeon may recommend an extended rehabilitation stay in Lithuania to support a safer and smoother recovery. If a patient requires a higher level of medical care, a major university public hospital is located only 3 km from Gijos Klinikos. Patients can be transferred quickly if needed, while the operating surgeon and clinic staff remain in close communication with the hospital team to ensure continuity of care and the best possible treatment outcome.

Throughout the process, clinic staff provide ongoing support to help patients feel comfortable, informed, and cared for. If flights home need to be rescheduled to allow for additional recovery time, MedTravel Solutions will assist with all necessary travel arrangements and support.

Lithuania

Lithuania combines high quality medical care, modern clinics, experienced specialists, and affordable treatment costs within the European Union. Patients can receive internationally recognized healthcare standards while often reducing overall treatment expenses compared to many Western European countries.

Another important advantage is safety. Lithuania is considered one of the safer countries in the European Union, with low levels of violent crime and strong public safety standards. Recent European statistics showed Lithuania among the EU countries with the lowest percentage of people reporting crime, violence, or vandalism, well below the European Union average.

The capital city, Vilnius, is regularly ranked among safer European cities for residents and visitors.

Lithuania is also a member of the European Union and follows strict EU healthcare regulations, patient safety requirements, hygiene standards, and medical quality control systems. This gives international patients additional confidence in the level of care they receive.

English is widely spoken in Lithuania, especially among the younger generation and healthcare professionals. Around 70–80% of younger people speak English, particularly in larger cities and medical environments. All clinic staff, including surgeons, physiotherapists, coordinators, and nurses, communicate in English to ensure patients feel comfortable and fully informed throughout their treatment journey.

Our patients travel from all across Canada for treatment in Lithuania. We regularly work with patients from provinces including Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and many other regions. We assist patients throughout the entire journey, helping make international treatment and travel as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Healthcare prices in Lithuania are lower mainly because of lower labor costs, clinic operating expenses, rental prices, and accommodation costs compared to countries such as Canada. Everyday business expenses, including salaries, utilities, and facility costs, are significantly lower, which reduces the overall cost of treatment. This allows patients to receive treatment, accommodation, and related services at a more affordable price.

Lithuania can usually be reached from Canada with one layover through a larger European city. Flights from Canada to Europe typically take around 7 to 8 hours, followed by approximately 2 additional hours from major European airport hubs to Vilnius, Lithuania.

You can check travel precautions here: https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/lithuania.

Lithuania is considered one of the safer countries in Europe, with a lower reported crime index than countries such as Canada, United States, and France. According to recent international safety indexes, Lithuania’s crime index is around 33, compared to approximately 46 in Canada, 49 in the United States, and 56 in France.

Lithuania is also a member of NATO, reflecting the country’s strong international security partnerships and political stability.

Costs

We provide a full package experience, so patients know the expected treatment and travel costs before leaving for Lithuania. There are no hidden costs, and everything is discussed transparently in advance. The final amount may only fluctuate slightly due to currency exchange rate changes between the Canadian dollar and the Euro.

Savings depend on the type of treatment, but in many cases the surgery itself, including a 7 to 10 day stay at the clinic, can cost almost half the price compared to private treatment options in Calgary. Lower labor, accommodation, and operating costs in Lithuania help reduce the overall treatment price while still providing high quality care. Each patient receives a personalized quotation with a clear breakdown of all expected costs before making any decisions.

An up-front payment is paid before your arrival, (to reserve the surgery spot), as the clinic may need to make preparations prior to your surgery and remaining balance will be paid at the clinic by credit card.

Procedure

We can usually arrange your surgery within approximately 6 weeks from the time all required medical information and consultations are completed.

The descriptions of treatments give recommendations for aftercare, such as a recommended minimum stay in Lithuania and what to avoid doing after treatment. We advise you to follow these, so you can get all the necessary post-treatment rehabilitation you need and recover just fine.

During the initial free online consultation our doctors will further guide you through everything you need to know about aftercare. Even after you are back in your home country, MedTravel Solutions will check on your condition and will provide the required assistance.

In some special cases, you may need special care after you leave Lithuania; if that is the case, we will ask you beforehand to inform your local primary care specialist prior to the trip so that they can take necessary care of you.

For orthopedic surgeries, patients will first be assessed by a local orthopedic surgeon in Canada to ensure the treatment is appropriate and safe. For plastic surgery procedures, we arrange a video consultation with the surgeon before any decision is made, allowing patients to discuss expectations, questions, and treatment plans directly with the specialist.

As Lithuania is a member of European Union, a European Health Insurance card is valid in Lithuania. Also EU directive 2011/24/EU allows to ask for reimbursement from your healthcare insurance provider even if you over go the procedure in another EU member state. For more information, please inquire us or contact your insurance broker.

For Canadian Citizens planned surgeries are not covered under the government health plans.
